米国では科学的根拠（evidence）にもとづく政策立案や企業経営が推進されてきました。一方、日本ではエビデンスという言葉自体は浸透しつつあるものの、それが政策立案や企業経営に十分反映されているとは言い難い状況にあります。たとえばIFRSの任意適用や2019年改正会社法による社外取締役設置の義務化についても、その効果に関する十分な検証と議論がなされたとは言えません。こうした中、石田研究室では財務会計・財務報告の分野で経営者や政策立案者が直面する問題を取り上げ、その解決策を科学的根拠にもとづいて探ることに重きを置いています。In the United States, evidence-based policymaking and corporate management have long been promoted. In Japan, although the word “evidence” is gradually taking hold, it is hard to say that it is sufficiently reflected in policymaking or corporate management. Neither the voluntary adoption of IFRS nor the mandatory appointment of outside directors under the 2019 Companies Act revision, for example, was accompanied by sufficient verification and debate about its effects. Against this backdrop, the Ishida Laboratory takes up problems faced by managers and policymakers in financial accounting and reporting, and seeks solutions grounded in scientific evidence.

扱うテーマは財務会計あるいは財務報告の領域であれば原則自由です（例：利益調整、利益の質、無形資産、IFRS、アナリスト、業績予想、ESG、サステナビリティ）。ただし、(1) 独自性があること、(2) 学術的・社会的意義があること、(3) データにもとづく検証を行うこと、の3要件を満たすことを求めています。具体的なテーマは指導教員と相談しながら決めていきます。Topics are in principle open as long as they fall within financial accounting or reporting (e.g., earnings management, earnings quality, intangibles, IFRS, analysts, management forecasts, ESG, sustainability). However, each project must satisfy three requirements: (1) originality, (2) academic and social significance, and (3) data-based verification. Specific topics are decided in consultation with the supervisor.

2024年度新規開講のためOG・OBはまだいませんが、大学教員、コンサルティング、シンクタンク、アセットマネジメント、投資銀行、事業会社などが想定される進路です。As the program newly opened in AY2024, there are no alumni yet, but anticipated paths include university faculty, consulting, think tanks, asset management, investment banking, and corporate roles.

修士課程：基礎体力作りに重きを置きます。1年次に会計学のトップジャーナル論文を大量に読み、学術論文を読むスキルと「すぐれた研究の要素」を学びつつ、計量経済学やStataなどの統計ソフトの使い方を習得します。2年次には各自で研究テーマを定め、修士論文を執筆します。Master’s program: The focus is on building a solid foundation. In the first year, students read a large number of top-journal accounting papers to learn how to read academic papers and what makes good research, while acquiring econometrics and statistical software such as Stata. In the second year, each student sets a research topic and writes a master’s thesis.

博士後期課程：より良い研究のためアイディアを練ることに重きを置きます。独自性（uniqueness）・意義（significance）・頑健性（plausibility）の3要件を満たす研究を目指し、3年間で3本の論文を執筆して博士論文を完成させます。Doctoral program: The focus is on refining ideas for better research. Aiming for work that satisfies the three requirements of uniqueness, significance, and plausibility, students write three papers over three years to complete a doctoral dissertation.

文系で大学院進学と聞くと「大学院まで行く必要があるのか？」「将来就職できるのか？」と疑問を持つ方も多いと思います。しかし、近年、日本においても科学的根拠にもとづく政策立案や企業経営に注目が集まっており、そのようなエビデンスを提供できる人材の必要性は増していると言えます。一方、文系の学部ではそれほど高度な研究を要求されないことが多いため、学部レベルの知識とスキルではこうした社会の需要を満たすことが難しい状況にあります。それゆえ、大学院に進学し、科学的根拠にもとづいた意思決定ができるようになることには相当程度の価値があると思います。さらに、会計という学問分野自体が社会的な需要が非常に高いため、会計の分野で修士号あるいは博士号を取得することは皆さんの価値を一層引き上げることに繋がると思います。なにより、会計の研究は面白く、人生をかける価値があります。興味があればぜひ石田研究室に飛び込んできてください。なお、石田研究室は学外の方からの応募もお待ちしています。もし興味があればいつでも連絡をください。必要があれば、学部4年生のゼミに参加してもらい、定期的に研究の報告を行ってもらっても構いません。When people hear about pursuing graduate study in the social sciences and humanities, many wonder, “Do I really need to go to graduate school?” or “Will I be able to find a job?” In recent years, however, evidence-based policymaking and corporate management have been drawing attention in Japan too, and the need for people who can provide such evidence is growing. At the same time, undergraduate programs in the social sciences often do not demand highly advanced research, so undergraduate-level knowledge and skills make it hard to meet this social demand. Advancing to graduate school and becoming able to make evidence-based decisions therefore has considerable value. Moreover, because accounting itself is in very high social demand, earning a master’s or doctoral degree in accounting will further raise your value.
